Overview

Empowered is seeking a Director of Product Management to be a leader of online learning and community engagement for educators. The Director of Product Management will drive innovation, development/management and the user experience of Empowered’s platform to evolve key components to aid in strategic growth efforts as well as improve upon customer support efforts. This Director will be knowledgeable on industry-leading technological solutions.  As an experienced Director, the successful candidate will collaborate with the 3rd party vendors to help design, implement, and drive the user experience of the Learning Management System and community-facing features.

 

We are seeking a highly motivated, outcome focused, and like-minded individual to join our community. As a Director of Product Management, you will work directly with Empowered’s team members, 3rd party Product Managers, and developers to deliver high-value business solutions in a fast-paced Agile environment. A person with an inclination and aptitude to solve business problems by applying technical solutions would be ideal. You are passionate about simplifying the way teachers learn, access knowledge and prepare for facilitation and will continuously champion the voice of the educators as you own the user experience for all platform components. You will help define the user experience for components and coordinate with 3rd party Product Managers to implement a best in class, frictionless user experience for our educators, internal staff and donors.

 

 

Your Responsibilities Include

  • Gather and apply knowledge on industry-leading technological solutions to drive innovation on Empowered’s platform
  • Manage the roll-out and implementation of a Learning Management System with a focus on user experience, project management and innovation:
    • Help define the overall strategy for UI/UX, the roadmap, and business plan to achieve a best-in-class User Experience
    • Help unify the user experience of currently fragmented product experiences
    • Actively prioritize product backlog and coordinate planning with Product Managers and Designers to drive UI/UX best practices across the organization, including accessibility and usability
  • Opportunity to build and lead a team
  • Strong understanding of design processes; knowledge of what is possible and what will be hard to achieve and/or implement in a digital environment.
  • Identify opportunities to advance Empowered’s vision, positioning the organization to scale and meet new challenges 
  • Conduct user acceptance testing across platform components to efficiency of value 
  • Expertise in producing relevant deliverables, including detailed site maps, user flows/task flows, user journeys, page flows, taxonomies/folksonomies, paths to purchase, wireframes, annotations, and prototypes that represent interaction recommendations, etc.
  • Collaborate with product managers and engineers from 3rd parties to execute design concepts that deliver on brand goals, business goals, and are technically feasible to implement Qualification & Experience
  • Participate in key meetings with partners including requirement sessions, system demos, user acceptance testing, gathering user feedback, and end-user training  
  • Lead project management efforts around owned products by helping set priorities, identifying roles, tracking issues and risks 
  • Gather and analyze data from multiple data sources 
  • Partner with 3rd party vendors to understand requirements required to build best in-class platform.

 

Knowledge and Skills You Bring to the Organization

  • 3+ years experience in an Educational Director role including successful rollout of one or more products as well as user experience (UX/UI)
  • 3+ years of professional experience successfully using and/or being involved in the development of educational technology in online and in-person settings
  • Hands on experience in architecting and using industry leading frameworks and design patterns
  • Excitement for the vision of Empowered
  • Beyond just delivering new products, obsessive about continuous product improvement and optimizing small and medium releases 
  • Detail-oriented individual with the ability to build trust through understanding business needs and technologies to support vision 
  • Strong presentation, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills  
  • Strong experience working with cross functional teams in a highly collaborative environment
  • High degree of entrepreneurship and a proven ability to manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to work with product development teams that include product manager, designers, user experience professionals, developers, QA, and editorial/content production staff
